Amateur radio is a unique hobby in that it encompasses many different fields of study and interests. It incorporates science, technology, engineering, mathematics, languages, geography, international relations, public service, and many other fields. In addition, ham radio operators have the ability to reach across cultural, demographic, and political boundaries to be goodwill ambassadors to the world. It can open opportunities for internships in marketing, public relations, emergency management, and many other areas of study as well.
In conjunction with the American Radio Relay League’s programs for youth, scouts, and college students, Milledgeville Amateur Radio Club provides license classes, assists students with applying for radio related scholarships, and provides speakers for youth, education, and scouting events. Amateur radio operators have been licensed as young as five years old. Several current members of the MARC were first licensed as teens and tweens. Encourage the children and students in your life to join the hobby that will last a lifetime.
